My brother's car

Our daughter, Barbara, is right; I have always loved cars. But the real car lover in the family was my oldest brother, Jack. He never bought a used car, always a new one, and after the 1930's, they were all Chrysler products (Plymouth, Dodge, Desoto, Chrysler).
These pictures are of the last car he ever bought, a 1962 Chrysler 300 which he drove until he was no longer physically able to drive. It is still in the family, having been left to his grandson, Brian Shaw. Brian owns a body shop in La Grande and keeps this car under careful wraps. This model is a classic.
The two in the first picture are my brother Jack and his son, Doug. They may also be seen in the front seat in the second picture.
These pictures were taken in 1964. Jack died in 1992, one month short of his 86th birthday.
Doug, 19 when these pictures were taken, is alive and well at the age of 64.
This blog is designed for older eyes, hence the big print.
Stay tuned.

Hey, you need some comments. It was sure fun to visit you yesterday, and Emma had a delightful time. Mom always has such fun things for her to do. Oh, and nice picture of Uncle Jack's car.
Grandpa - Very nice car photos. Did you or your brother ever name your cars? We currently have Sally (Honda Accord) and Hot Rod (Mini Van). My first car was named The Thunderbolt. I cannot print the name that I gave my 1988 Ford Escort that always broke down on me. Any good car name stories from your past?
For Andrew -
There was a time when I named my cars, but I gave all of them the same name: "Hecuba".
Your mission, should you care to accept it, is to read "Hamlet" and report back to me why I called so many of my cars "Hecuba".
This same challenge is open to any others who would like to undertake the task. You might find some valuable insight into men's relationship with cars.

What a sweet classic car! Like my dad has said, "Those Hiatt men take great care of their automobiles..." (or something like that).
I loooooove that car. I just love it. Uncle Jack and his "chrysler products". I love the sleekness of it, the baby blue of it, the classic pointy features of it. I was always in awe of that car.
